    How it works

    1. Pick the pool: all animals, one group, or your own pasted list.
    2. Set how many you need, from 1 to 99.
    3. Press Generate, then Copy list. Every line is one animal.

    Support range

7,119 species, each with a common name and a scientific name, in 11 groups: mammals (800), birds (800), reptiles (798), amphibians (795), fish (800), insects (794), arachnids (598), mollusks (751), echinoderms (459), cnidarians (406) and annelids (118). Pulled from the iNaturalist public API (/v1/taxa, rank=species) on 2026-10-13. Species that have no common name in the source are not shown, so nothing here is invented to pad the count.

Every result carries a link to its own iNaturalist taxon page, which is where the sourced photos and per-species facts live. This page shows text only: of the 7,119 entries, 1,069 photos in the source carry a licence that allows commercial use, so a photo card would be both half-empty and a licence risk.

Scientific names mirror iNaturalist's own taxonomy. Where another source splits or merges a genus differently, the name here follows iNaturalist, not that source.

Quality floor: every name is a species in the source data. This is not a list of “cool animals” typed by hand.

    FAQ

What is a random animal generator?
A tool that picks animals for you at random so you do not have to choose. This one draws from 7,119 species and can output up to 99 unique animals per round.
How many animals can I pick at once?
1 to 99. With “Unique results” on (the default), no animal repeats inside the same round.
Can I use it as a random animal picker for class or a game?
Yes. Set the pool to the group you need, set the quantity, and copy the list into your worksheet, slide or game sheet.
Is this animal randomizer free? Do I need an account?
Free, no account, no email, no sign-up. It runs entirely in your browser — the names you generate are not sent anywhere.
Can I paste my own animal list?
Yes. Choose “Custom list” as the pool and paste one animal per line; the generator then picks from your list only.
Where do the animal names come from?
iNaturalist public API, taxa search at species rank, pulled on 2026-10-13. Each result shows the common name, the scientific name and a link to that animal's iNaturalist page for photos and sourced facts.
